Associate Art Director, Email Digital

Location: Chicago, Illinois

The Associate Art Director will support digital marketing with a primary focus on email. This position is responsible for leading the email creative team to create elevated email campaigns that drive engagement and conversion and inspire our customers. Responsible for leading the design, presentation and photography concepts for email creative. Partners with cross-functional teams to deliver a consistent and innovative consumer-first brand presentation across channels.

This is an on-site position (Monday through Thursday) based out of our Chicago, IL office with the flexibility to work remotely on Fridays.

A day in the life as an Associate Art Director, Email Digital ...

  • Deepen customer engagement and conversion by driving the creation of innovative and engaging email, social media and other digital marketing campaigns

  • Lead email campaigns from inception to launch, working collaboratively across design and copy on concepts and implementation

  • Drive advancements in the email channel through design, functionality, process, etc

  • Provide creative direction for email briefs by pulling inspiration, determining key messaging, skus lists, etc

  • In collaboration with the Content Creator/copywriter and the Associate Marketing Manager, develop overall email strategy and design

  • Collaborate with the Associate Marketing Manager to manage core consumer growth segments including Design Trade Program, Business Sales and New Movers for US and Canada

  • Lead team to ensure that creative is aligned with the company’s overall strategy, branding, and marketing and sales goals

  • Work to enhance process and campaign performance to accelerate channel performance

  • Mentor the email creative team by providing critical hindsight and feedback

  • Create and maintain consistent email templates, standards and specifications

  • Consistently approach design projects from a user-centered perspective

  • Collaborate with design leads and external teams to ensure new email journeys are produced at standards that uphold/elevate the company’s brand identity

  • Build cross-functional relationships and interact daily with internal teams to support multi-channel initiatives

  • Maintain awareness of key performance metrics and incorporate them as part of the goals of the email designs

  • Develop creative point of view to support channel personalization strategy, including versioning and dynamic content plans

What you’ll bring to the table…

  • Extensive knowledge of graphic design including Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator

  • Experience in designing specifically for the email and other digital marketing channels with a complete understanding of email design best practices

  • A thought leader with high standards to the email program and supports the email team to meet and exceed that standard

  • Demonstrated passion for email and other digital channels

  • Interested in remaining current and informed on best practices and latest trends

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver engaging and effective creative solutions against marketing briefs and content strategies.

  • Understand the nuances of customer segments within the email channel and personalization opportunities to maximize relevancy and engagement

  • Possess the ability to run effective critique of creative work

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully guide and move forward multiple projects at one time

  • Knowledge of the home competitive retail landscape

  • Social media savvy with an innate interest in modern culture and trends

  • The ability to concept and execute social media campaigns as needed

We’d love to hear from you if you have…

  • Must provide Portfolio link (including password) on resume or link to PDF that include samples of email campaigns and other digital marketing

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

  • 5 years of relevant experience

  • Proven ability to work in a team environment

  • Previous experience writing HTML email code a plus

  • Previous experience with animation and motion graphics

  • Strong typography skills

  • Experience with directing both photo and video a plus

  • Experience in the retail industry a plus


Starting Rate: $60,000.00 - $78,000.00

Pay ranges will be adjusted upward as needed to comply with applicable state and local law. In addition to your salary, based on your role, associates may be eligible for other compensation including bonuses, sales incentives, and long term incentives.
